Sutton Benger II 34, Aldbourne 10
The Seconds are on the move into the top half of the table and looking to make further progress. A splendid effort on Saturday saw the mighty Benger rattle up another six tries during the course of an entertaining game at home to Aldbourne. The early exchanges went the way of Aldbourne and the home team spent some time in their own half. The tackling however was generally solid throughout and the first points came the way of Benger as a result of Dave Brown driving off a ruck. Having done all the hard work Dave offloaded to the Bald Eagle loitering by the try line, who only had to fall over to score. This he duly managed. Aldbourne came straight back and courtesy of a little generosity from the defence equalised under the posts. A run from star first team treasurer put the Benger back in the lead only for another response from the visitors. At this stage the game was very much in the balance with both sets of forwards working hard. The decisive moments were in the first ten minutes of the second half when tries from Lakey and Shipman took Benger clear. Further tries came from Sam Maggs, and newcomer full back James Mackenzie. Man of the match could easily have gone to James but the judging panels weren’t prepared to risk having to drink on his behalf as he was driving. So after much bleating from the tight five having not been recognised following the last home game, the award went to Craig Smith. Next up Marlboro’.
