Second Team Match Report

Swindon College II vs Sutton Benger II

Swindon College II 41 Sutton Benger II 0 04/10/08

Benger started with 14, against a well drilled and experienced College side, after a couple of late injury withdrawals and soon found themselves on the defensive.  The effort was present from all who played and the team was rewarded when a passing cyclist was persuaded to go home and change into his kit bringing them to a full complement. Thank You Simon.  Particularly impressive were the front five in the set piece and Benger won unheard of amounts of scrum and line out ball. The backs, with several players playing out of position were unable to make the possession count on the scoreboard.  Eventually the pace and power of the Swindon side led them to score seven unanswered tries which would have been several more but for the magnificent tackling from Sam Warner playing out of position at full back. The man of the match award duly went to Sam but a case could equally have been made for any or all of the front five for their collective performance.

ONE BRIGHT NOTE TO REPORT
We have an early contender for the Golden Boot from Ed Watson.  The venom in his voice as he called an opponent a “f…ing BENDER” was such that both front rows were in total hysterics and had to take several minutes to compose themselves before being able to reengage combat at the ensuing scrum.  Nice one Ed…
Next week Melksham CAT’s III away and all to the gym for  fitness training.
