Devizes 13 Sutton Benger 30
A top result for the boys in pink as Devizes our closest challengers were comprehensively beaten on Saturday keeping Benger clear at the top of the table. The game started with Benger on the back foot as Devizes started much the quicker and were far more effective in ruck , maul and lineout. An infringement at the ruck allowed Devizes to take an early lead with a penalty from in front of the posts. Benger made error after error and looked anything but a champion team at this point . Finally after half an hour with really only a dominant scrummage keeping the opposition at bay Benger finally started to play some rugby. A scrum in their own half was won and Crome went blind and fed Johnsy who shipped the ball onto the whippet on the wing. Joe shot off veered in and out leaving the full back clutching at thin air and sauntered in for five points. Conversion missed. Less than five minutes later from a line out on the Devizes twenty two Benger swung the ball left to Jay who made ground and set up a ruck . Going back right , crome passed on to Alex and he trundled over the line for the second score. Conversion made. With the last play of the half from a scrum in front of the posts Denning fed Crome standing deep and he slotted his second drop goal in as many games. Half time 15-3
Benger started the second half as they had finished the first on the attack and it was not long before Yandell went over in front of the posts and Crome converted. Crome soon added a penalty from in front of the posts and Benger were cruising at 25-3. Inexplicably Benger then went to sleep for a quarter of an hour and allowed Devizes back into the game with two unconverted tries . Devizes sensed an implosion of England like proportions but the Benger pack got back to grips with their opposition, Chad literally so ; yellow card duly awarded. A final try in the corner for Crome on the loop sealed a comprehensive win 30-13.
